German • English • French.Nicolas Medtner (russisch Nikolaj Metner) (1880 - 1951) wurde in Moskau von deutschen Eltern geboren. Seit 1902 war er als Pianist bekannt, ab 1909 lehrte er als Professor am Konservatorium in Moskau. 1910 legte er diese Stellung nieder, um sich ausschließlich der Komposition zu widmen. 1922 zog er nach Berlin, später nach London, wo er bis zu seinem Tode lebte. Vor allem Klavierkomponist, gehörte er zu den "Unzeitgemäßen". In der formalen Gestaltung seiner Werke, wie in seinen ästhetischen Ansichten blieb er den Grundsätzen eines spätromantischen Akademismus treu.
