A single, nine-minute movement, it is characterized by a complex, lively rhythmic interplay between the three instruments, in particular a wittily repeated figure of sixteenth-note quintuplets.Upon reviewing Wuorinen's third and final draft for this piece posthumously, three of Wuorinen's close musical confidants—his student, composer Anthony Cornicello, who edited and engraved the work; his partner and manager, Howard Stokar; and his frequent collaborator, cellist Fred Sherry—have decided unanimously that while Wuorinen would certainly have added small details to the score, what he has left behind is a complete and substantial piece.
