The melodic lines and harmonies are constructed from a 'set' of 10 pitches. It is a showpiece, with both instruments vying for prominence. The instruments allude one another at the outset, then overlap with antiphonal gestures, before eventually reaching an assured, musical homogeneity towards the end of the piece.
