This tune gained popularity when it was included in Aaron Copland's score for the ballet Appalachian Spring. The melody has a decidedly traditional Celtic sound, but it was written by Elder Joseph Brackett of Maine in 1848. This intermediate arrangement is in the key of G and begins with 12/8 time counted in 4.
