Inspired by the folk dances of his homeland, modern-day Czech Republic, Antonin Dvorak originally composed his two collections of Slavonic Dances for Piano, Four Hands, then was asked to arrange them all for a small orchestra, then about 150 years later arranged for concert band by a guy in Louisiana.     The orchestration of this arrangement is for a medium-sized concert band, including Contrabass Clarinet, Bassoons, and Oboes. And the extra power in the woodwinds is this piece's strongsuit, with the flutes and piccolo up front.      The arranger would grade this as a Grade 5 piece, needing extended range for the flutes, oboes, and horns. The Sousedská in D Major is marked with Sempre accelerando, poco a poco, where the entire piece gradually speeds up, very slowly, but maintains an Allegretto scherzando.*      We hope you enjoy this piece, and that this will be a highlight of your concert lineup.
