A student of Domenico Scarlatti, he wrote over 150 keyboard sonatas. The Sonata in D Major is in an improvisatory style typical of Spanish dance. The sonata features dance-like 16th-note rhythms, repeated notes characteristic of virtuoso guitar technique, and unique harmonies and modulations.
