The simplistic message in the melody is contrasted and supported by all the other players in the band, those would be the other things “They Did”  and there is plenty. For the trumpet solo which is transcribed per the CD, each section in the big band play significant roles in providing lots of interest to play off of as a soloist. After restating the melody in the trumpets and saxes with some variation, the composition wraps it up with a unison line at the end to finish strong!
