I consider them to be fallish because one of them is a lament.  The other one is about the bones of the earth (the rocky coast.) The third movement is about the play of light through barren tree branches.  It is called "The Haunted Sonata" because the melody that the sonata is based is practically invisible. It is there, but it is just like a ghost, you hear it out of the corner of your eye.
