"I sought to express a similar formal balance, and a certain measure of technical virtuosity, with my own melodic sense and harmonic palette, my own underlying tonal logic, and with a beat that is at times obsessive, or irregular, or exuberant. "The unusual subtitle 'Lasker' refers to the Lasker Summer Music Festival in rural North Carolina."
