With its fast-slow-fast sequence of movements and the manner of its formation this piece of about 17 minutes duration follows to some extent classical models. Characteristic of its musical expression is, however, an individual mixture of the varied recollections of genre and mood. The success of the composition has been proved in numerous performances.
