The Sonatina for Trumpet and Piano is dedicated to the composer's friend Charles Gleaves (1925-2002). Gleaves was Principle Trumpet of the Buffalo Philharmonic for many years. His friendship with Hartley went back even further, to when both men were living in Rochester, NY.
