In 1984, while aboard the cruise ship MS PEARL OF SCANDINAVIA navigating the waters of Asia, I had the privilege of exploring the vibrant city of Shanghai, China. Immersed in its bustling streets, I was struck by the energetic chaos: packed buses, swarms of bicycles darting in every direction, and people bustling about, engaged in shopping or hurrying to various destinations. The vivid memory of this scene inspired me to compose the music for STREETS OF SHANGHAI. My aim was to craft an album comprising ten piano pieces, each resonating with the captivating essence of Chinese music. Hence, I titled the album “CHINA LOVE.” The sheet music for STREETS OF SHANGHAI is clearly notated, featuring detailed instructions on dynamics, articulation, phrasing, pedal usage, chord symbols, suggested fingerings, and pertinent musical terminology. This arrangement is well-suited for advanced intermediate students, professional pianists, and piano instructors, offering a rewarding musical journey.
