Vogel is a set of six character pieces: A Little Blues, Arioso, Afternoon Stroll, Invention, Barcarole, and Festivities. They evoke the contrasting moods of contemporary blues improvisation, a lyrical song, a leisurely afternoon walk, a contrapuntal invention, a Venetian boat song, and a lively party. The movements may be played individually, or in any grouping. The duration of each is approximately 2 1/2 minutes and that of the overall work is 15 minutes without pauses. Two scores are provided.
