The Symphonic variations on the theme of the Bulgarian folk song 'Kitchitse, buyna loboda' (roughly translated as 'A bunch of luxuriant saltbush') were written in the summer of 2014 and eventualy were awarded with 2nd prize at the 14th International composition competition in 7/8 (Sofia, Bulgaria). The structure is introduction, theme, 7 variations (whose subtitles come from the respective lines of lyrics of the song) and coda. Saltbush (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atriplex) is a kind of grasslike plant and according the lyrics the person in the song shares their impressions with it:You, a bunch of luxuriant saltbush,give me a knife to stab myselfbecause of your neighborhood's behavior!You have beautiful maidensbut your lads are stupidbecause they don't know how to love the maidens!They only know how to steal their flowers!In musical 'language' the anger in 2nd variation is depicted with time signature changes, high registers, etc.; the neighborhood in the 3rd variation is depicted with fugue; the stupid lads are depicted with tuba solo, etc.NB.
