Phyllis Avidan Louke Program Notes When looking for newer Chanukah music, I stumbled upon this gem that was written approximately 20 years ago by composer Stephen Schwartz and lyricist Steve Young.  Stephen Schwartz is a composer and lyricist who has written several hit Broadway musicals, including Wicked, Pippin, Godspell and others.  He was also the composer and/or lyricist for several Disney animated movies.  This song has a lovely and poignant melody along with beautiful harmonies. Holiday, Hanukah, Jewish, Traditional The Chanukah Song is scored for 4 flutes, alto flute (alternate c-flute part included), bass flute and optional contrabass flute (or bass flute 2).  Play the occasional divisi notes marked in the music to enhance the harmony, if enough players are available.  In this scoring, most of the vocal parts are in Flute 1, 2, 4, and Bass Flute. Some of the interludes and occasional accompaniment parts can be found in these parts, although most of the accompaniment (and occasional melody) is found in Flute 3 and Alto Flute.
