I have studied the piano since 5 years old under Mr Joseph Toh and I graduated from LASALLE College of the Arts with a Diploma in Music in 2013, majoring in Music Composition under Malaysian composer Mr Chong Kee Yong and Singaporean composer Mrs Joyce Koh Bee Tuan.About The Devil's EtudeI composed this etude for piano solo in October 2019. I was inspired by a few piano master pieces. They are mainly Robert Schumann’s Toccata in C, Op. 7, Franz Liszt’s Transcendental Etudes no. 5 (Feux Follets) and also Ligeti’s L'Escalier du diable. I also quoted the Gregorian chant "Dies Irae" and varied it in the middle section of this piece. ** There is an error in the metronome marking in the second section.
