Although Irish jigs are usually paired, I left this as a stand-alone piece, thinking that it was interesting enough withoutintroducing a second jig. The 1st violin has most of the hard work to do here, as it plays the tune almost throughout. The other three instruments provide syncopated accompanying rhythms and tasteful chords. This accompaniment  however is a strong, essential feature, and the off-beat rhythms ensure that students will find it attractive to play. It is a very suitable choice for a school concert. .
