I grew up next to a stream running through my parents’ property, so I was always playing with the mud, fish, and tadpoles. When the professional EvNiKa Clarinet, Violin, and Piano Trio asked for original music, this water idea began to form in my head. The Stream, inspired by Virgil Thomson’s piece "The River" (1937), stylistically models various American speech rhythms and folk melodies to personify a small but growing body of water.
