Liberace first heard Barbara sing in the "Bon Soir" club, in Greenwich Village, in the early sixties. He was so impressed, that he brought her into his early Las Vegas shows and promoted her. The song was written by Alan Bergman, Marilyn Bergman, and Marvin Hamlisch. "The Way We Were" is a song made famous by American singer Barbra Streisand from her fifteenth studio album of the same name. It was released as the album's lead single on September 27, 1973 through Columbia Records. Hamlisch and the Bergmans won the Academy Award for Best Original Song at the 46th Academy Awards; the former musician also won the Oscar for Best Original Score for the film. The tune also won the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song in 1974 and the Grammy Award for Song of the Year in 1975 Władziu Valentino Liberace (May 16, 1919 – February 4, 1987) was an American pianist, singer, and actor. A child prodigy born in Wisconsin to parents of Italian and Polish origin, he enjoyed a career spanning four decades of concerts, recordings, television, motion pictures, and endorsements.
