About this arrangement

Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1176059 By Frank Sinatra. By Fred Ebb and John Kander. Arranged by Stewart J Wallace. Broadway,Film/TV,Jazz,Musical/Show,Standards. Octavo. 17 pages. Stewart J Wallace #776185. Published by Stewart J Wallace (A0.1176059). This song was composed for and first performed by Liza Minelli in Martin Scorsese's film "New York, New York" in 1977. Of course, it's become synonymous with Frank Sinatra who first performed it in the following year. The instantly recognisable piano riff at the start creates that typically Sinatra laid-back style and in his version the orchestral arrangement by Don Costa builds the drama with each verse. In this version, the male voices start, and it would be effective to gradually add more singers at the points marked in the arrangement. After that, the melody moves to the sopranos, with the female and male voices echoing each other. Try to get the feel of swing quavers laid-back, yet also tight together. The triplets do not have to line up exactly with the piano accompaniment, but the singers should all be doing the same rhythm. There is a voices-only copy included in the arrangement to reduce the number of pages for the choir.
