During the process of writing this piece (from the original commission date in 2019 to the finished work in 2022), there have been 1,557 mass shootings in the United States in which the definition of mass shooting should be four or more people, excluding the shooter, who are shot in a single event regardless of the motive, setting or number of deaths.".
