The origin of the hymn tune SLANE is an Irish folk song called "The Banks of the Bann". It first appeared in the old Irish Church Hymnal of 1919.2.    Aunt Nancy’s DanceI wanted to include something whimsical for friends and colleagues, Wildy Zumwalt, Cindy Gould and Nancy Sullivan. The result was this second movement, dedicated to "Aunt Nancy."3.    Fantasy on an Old Negro SpiritualI found this tune in a book of spirituals, many of which were completely unknown to me. The melody is very simple, as are the words. A recording of the spiritual can be found in the Smithsonian archives.
