Within Toccata e Fantasia Thomas Doss has used several of Bruckner’s motifs. In addition to these obvious references you will also find hints of Eastern music with the small motifs being repeated again and again in a sort of Indian guru’s mantra, and an improvised blues section with a Big Band feel! La texture de Toccata e Fantasia est construite partir de plusieurs motifs brucknériens.Après une introduction puissante, apparaît une toccata aux couleurs orientales, qui énonce des rythmes irréguliers. Les motifs de Bruckner, répétés inlassablement, résonnent alors comme le mantra d’un gourou hindou. Dans le passage central, nous découvrons Bruckner l’organiste-improvisateur. Fantasia improvise un cama eu de bleu qui se faufile travers le tissu musical et lui offre un contraste de couleurs, tendance BigBand. L’orchestration complète dessine gros traits la mélodie chorale extraite de la Cinquième Symphonie. La Toccata clôt la pièce dans une atmosphère turbulente.
