The theme of the contest was Exploring America through the Arts. I chose the idea of a tribute to the women of American folk songs during the westward expansion of America in the 1800s. This four-minute march medley pays tribute to "Sweet Betsy from Pike," "My Darlin' Clementine," "I've Been Working on the Railroad [Someone's in the Kitchen with Dinah]," "She'll Be Comin' 'Round the Mountain," all intermingled with the memory of the girl back home, "Oh, Susannah."  Key of G modulates to Key of A, 8 pages; intermediate level.
