A short piano suite, consisting of four short movements that are deeply meaningful to me: I.&amp;nbsp; &amp;nbsp; &amp;nbsp; &amp;nbsp; &amp;nbsp; "Baltic Amber"-&amp;nbsp; Noun 1: a hard yellowish to brownish translucent fossil resin that takes a fine polish and is used chiefly in making ornamental objects (such as beads) &amp;nbsp;"amber." Always the eyes." &amp;nbsp;-Freeland by Voldie &amp;nbsp;Notes from the Composer: &amp;nbsp; It all started in Kyiv, the capitol of the Ukraine, a country not too far from my good friend Sara in Kazakhstan.&amp;nbsp; I had been searching for a piece of genuine Baltic Amber, which only comes from the Baltic Region, most of it coming from Russia.&amp;nbsp; Amber from this region is said to be dated from the Eocene epoch.&amp;nbsp; Upon searching, I found a small shop from the Ukraine and met the energy of a wonderful lady named Irina, who sent me the Amber bracelet (along with another small gift) that I have today.&amp;nbsp; She also included a lovely note: &amp;nbsp; Mathew, thank You for order. With best wishes, Irene ⚘ I was very glad to receive the package that had stamps on it from the Ukraine, air mail labels in French, and had been around Europe and Central Asia. Therefore, I had to write a movement to this suite that encompassed much of the range of the piano, providing a firm foundation with lower bass notes, and soaring melodies in the right hand.&amp;nbsp; After the introduction, the first melody is based off of Irina’s name, one can hear it go up and back down a triadic form. &amp;nbsp; II.&amp;nbsp; &amp;nbsp; &amp;nbsp; &amp;nbsp; &amp;nbsp; "Stand"-&amp;nbsp; Intransitive Verb&amp;nbsp; 1 a: to support oneself on the feet. &amp;nbsp; "stand." Web. 22 June 2019. &amp;nbsp; "[The] first law states that every object will remain at rest or in uniform motion in a straight line unless compelled to change its state by the action of an external force." -Isaac Newton’s Laws of Motion &amp;nbsp; This movement begins with a simple melody and expands further into octaves much like some of the other movements in this piece.&amp;nbsp; So, what happens when you decide to take control of freedom?&amp;nbsp; Freedom is free as it is, but what happens when you choose it?&amp;nbsp; Much like Newton’s first law above, this movement is about regaining control of your personal expansion.&amp;nbsp; One returns to a sense of security in the cadences at measures 10 and 12, but then expands into octaves of the main melody that already have a sense of strange familiarity to it.&amp;nbsp; Expansion even further occurs in sixteenth note octave variations of the main melody, showing what would first look like spread sparseness and flightiness, but is controlled chaos. Freedom.&amp;nbsp; It slows, but does not come to a grinding halt, and is set free and able to ring out into the distance in the last fermata. &amp;nbsp; III.&amp;nbsp; &amp;nbsp; &amp;nbsp; &amp;nbsp; "Awake"-&amp;nbsp; Intransitive Verb&amp;nbsp; 3: to become conscious or aware of something. &amp;nbsp; "awake."
