Juan María Solare Vamp at Different Speeds (2012) Duration: 7:30https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eu5sio_Ob1A   The English word "vamp" is often used in certain kinds of music (such as rock or pop) to designate a recurrent character or section (such as the ending of "Hey Jude" by The Beatles). A "vamp" in the sense of a simple chord progression can also be used at the beginning of a piece, as a "hold-on music" until all musicians are ready to start. This way, it's very close to what in classical music is called ostinato: a permanently repeated musical figure. As a wink: the word Vamp is also an abbreviation of vampire - and therefore of femme fatale. And why "at different speeds"? Because in this piece, a number of ostinati appear overlapped at different speeds. The original version of this work is for solo Organ. The version for string trio (violin, viola and cello) was written a few days later (in September 2012).
