Variations on an Ancient Pavane written by Ervin Monroe for five C flutes, four flutes with alto and /or bass flute or flute choir (optional piccolo part with all combinations). The Pavane is a slow and elegant processional dance which was popular with European aristocracy in the 16th and 17th centuries. This flute choir follows the AA, BB format. The stately melodies introduced in chorale form, followed by eight contrasting variations on the theme, including other dance forms.
