The piece, written in 2004 for Richard Hoskins as part of the dedicatory celebrations for the new Fisk organ at St. Chrysostoms Church in Chicago, has taken a place in the Pentecost literature of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries alongside that of Messiaen.
