Refreshing and evocative, Vignettes creates three distinct moods as it explores solo bassoon in relationship to the texture and color of the strings. The first movement, “Hopespun” is joyous and accessible, celebrating a dotted note pattern both dancelike and carefree. The second movement, “Somewhere, Tears” is lyrical and reflective, characterized by a poignant descending melody that moves throughout the ensemble.  “Infinite Imagines,” the third movement, is playful and imaginative, with a curious pizzicato theme that weaves its way through a series of short whole-tone scale patterns that are interrupted by comedic melodic bursts from the bassoon.
