About this arrangement

Choral SATB Choir and Piano SKU: CF.BL1188 Composed by Victor Johnson. 12 pages. Duration 2:45. BriLee Music #BL1188. Published by BriLee Music (CF.BL1188). UPC: 672405010337. Key: D minor. English. Christina Rossetti (1830-1894).Who Has Seen the Wind is a setting of a popular poem by Christina Rossetti. Born on December 5, 1830 in London, England, Rossetti in regarded as one of the foremost poets of the Victorian age. She was the author of numerous books of poetry, including Goblin Market and other Poems (1862), The Prince's Progress (1866), A Pageant (1881), and The Face of the Deep (1882). This piece begins with a gentle and lyrical introduction of the question "Who has seen the wind?" and then moves into the rhythmic, up-tempo A-section at m. 11. In m. 36, we have the B-section, which changes time signature to 6/8 and has more movement to the phrases. Also, we find in this section original text by the composer. In m. 53, we have the brisk A -section material stated again and m. 74 begins the exciting coda which builds to a thrilling end. In this piece, there are many opportunities for expressive, musical singing. To help achieve an optimal performance, focus should be given to singing smooth, uninterrupted phrases, singing with beautifully tall vowels and clean, crisp consonants, and making sure careful attention is given to clear diction and proper syllabic stress throughout the piece. After you have learned Who Has Seen the Wind very well, ask yourself the following questions: Are you singing the text clearly and articulately? Are you properly stressing the important syllables and backing off of non-stressed syllables? Is there a sense of energy throughout the piece, in both the lyrical, flowing sections and the up-tempo, faster sections? Are you also singing with a sense of energy no matter what the dynamic marking? Are you singing phrases with proper breath support and a sense of "rise and fall" to the phrase?
