They are outstanding works for contest, concert or recital, either individually or as a set. The third  impromptu engages both instruments in a relentless, mechanical, prestissimo rondo. Musically there is always only one direction allowed, that is foward. There is a moment near the mid-point reminiscent of a brief pause to look up and confirm the path, but then it is back to the machine-like prestissimo all the way to completion.
