Sketches from NowhereSketches from Nowhere is de tweede compositie die Thomas Doss voor brassband heeft geschreven. De titel is gebaseerd op diverse beelden die de componist in gedachten voor zichzag terwijl hij aan dit stuk werkte - van verre oorden (overal en nergens), van glinsterende galactische nevelen en van zwarte gaten in het heelal - beelden die in verband zouden kunnen staan met Genesis en de oorsprong van demensheid. Het belangrijkste thema, dat van het begin tot het eind in Sketches from Nowhere is verweven, reflecteert de evolutie: het nederige ontstaan van alles, met louter sterrenwolken zwevend in de ruimte, uiteindelijk culminerendin de enorme netwerken van vandaag de dag. Doss wilde ook het abstractere concept weergeven van iets wat zich weet te ontwikkelen vanuit het niets.
